Ballet Around the World: Cambodia

I found some exciting news as I was searching for dance articles today! The country of Cambodia, located on the southern portion of the Indochina peninsula, will be opening a ballet school and two private arts schools - the first of their kind!
British dancer Stephen Bimson, who first came to Cambodia as a dance volunteer with Outreach International, will be opening a school in the city's capital, Phnom Penh, with Devi Vahnon, a granddaughter of a Cambodian princess. In addition to the school, Bimson would like to set up an outreach program that will bring ballet to those children who normally would not be exposed to it.
Lee Chan-Hae, a former professor at Yonsei University’s College of Music, is the main man behind the Phnom Penh Institute of Art and the El Dreams Art School. Classes in fine art, music, and ballet will be offered to ages as young as 3 years old.
These two people dared to dream big to bring art to everyone! Do you have a dance dream?

Video Time!

These soccer (or should I say futbol?) players aren't the greatest at barre work, but its great to see them trying out ballet as exercise!

Point & Flex!

There are some simple ballet exercises that you can practice every day, whether your 3 or 30! Stretching our legs all the way down to our toes can be accomplished by a simple point & flex stretch! Sit on the floor with your legs stretched out, your back straight, and your arms relaxed. Point your toes as far as you can and stretch your arms down to reach them, then flex your toes back towards your chest and slowly sit back up! Miss Margie has a wonderful song that we sing to help remember this exercise:

Point & Flex them <--- at this part, just point and flex your toes, no arms!
Point & Flem them
Point those pretty feet, feet, feet! <-- point and flex your toes opposingly!
Point & Flex them
Point & Flex them
Do not cross the street, street, street!
Creep them, Creep them <--- start to "creep" your arms down your legs to your flexed toes!
Creep them, Creep them
Right down to your toes, toes, toes!
Creep them, Creep them
Creep them, Creep them
Do not touch your nose, nose, nose!
