Spring Musical Auditions

ANNIE, JR. is only recent history; the cast hasn't even had their celebratory cast party yet. But we're already gearing up for the Musical Theatre Performance Company's Spring productions! For those of you who don't know, for the Spring show, the MTPC puts together two performances instead of just one. The Showtimers and Encores work together for one show; the Headliners put together another show. It's a great opportunity for the younger girls to get the experience of larger roles and smaller cast, and it's a fun time for the older girls to not only perform with their peers but also perfect their performance technique in a smaller cast.

This Spring, Showtimers (performers ages 5 and 6) and Encores (performers ages 7 and 8) students will be in Jungle Book Kids. Headliners (performers ages 9 and up) students will be in Godspell, Jr., the Broadway Juniors abridged-edition of the musical Godspell.

The Jewel Heart by Barbara Helen Berger

Yesterday was Valentine's Day; but just because the holiday has ended, it doesn't mean that we're feeling any less magical. One of Ballet Petite's favorite stories is the story of The Jewel Heart. One of our StoryBox stories and our February theme, it tells the story of Gemino, the Pagliacci-style clown, who has no voice. He can sing with his violin and has a jewel for a heart. He played his violin for Pavelle, whose dancing was so beautiful that everyone would stop and stare. However, their simple beauty was destroyed one day, and Pavelle must find a way to bring the beauty of music and love back into their lives.

This simple story tells of love, heartbreak, and the beauty of music and dance. Pavelle's love saves Gemino. We learn that beauty isn't necessarily in beautiful things. We each have beauty within us, if we nurture it and let it grow.

We've chosen this beautiful story as our February theme not only because of its tales of love and redemption (perfect for Valentine's Day); we've also chosen it because it inspires us to use art to express emotion and to use dance to tell a story.

See The Jewel Heart on display at McLean, Bethesda, and Cabin John through the end of February!

Annie, Jr. Opens this Weekend

For five months, they’ve been working. They made it through auditions. They made it through rehearsals. They made it through dance classes, vocal warm-ups, even a hurricane.

And now, the Musical Theatre Performance Company is proud to present ANNIE this weekend, February 9th and 10th. Friday’s performances are at 2:30 and 6:30PM. Saturday’s performances are at 1:30 and 4:30PM. If you haven’t purchased your tickets yet, there are still a few available for all shows here.
The performances will be at the Jewish Community Center of Greater Washington in Rockville.

Don't miss this spectacular performance! Break a leg, ladies!

A Warm Heart for a Cold February

It has snowed once again. The roadways are iced, and the wind is screeching through town. But it’s finally February in the Washington area, and we’re busy getting ready for Valentine’s Week at Ballet Petite. Our studios are decorated, invitations have been given, and we cannot wait for February 8th to roll around when we’ll welcome not only our lovely dancers to class but their friends as well.

February 8th through February 14th is WE <3 OUR DANCERS Bring a Friend Valentine’s Week and Fundraiser for the Children’s Hunger Relief Fund at Ballet Petite and Youth Performing Arts School. All of our dancers, from the smallest to the tallest, are invited to bring a friend to their dance classes that week. We will also be collecting donations for the Children’s Hunger Relief Fund at all studios. Our teachers are planning fun, games, and new choreography for class. We also have some special Valentine’s storybooks we'll be using for our Story Dances. It is going to be a great time for us to share our love of dance and music with our dancers and for our dancers to share their love of dance and music with their friends.

Keep looking out for updates coming from our studios in the following weeks. We're working hard to keep the Ballet Petite magic going throughout the cold winter.
